The American Heart Association’s Research Reception pays tribute to the outstanding cardiovascular and stroke research currently taking place in Central Ohio. Guests will stroll through poster presentations that include local American Heart Association-funded researchers and will have the opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with the researchers about their work and its potential impact. The event will also include a short program with a panel discussion featuring local experts who will provide a deeper look at the Association’s research funding and its process as well as new and innovative local projects currently underway and funded by the Association.

Funding research is a cornerstone of the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission. It is a pillar upon which the Association was founded nearly a century ago – it is ingrained in their DNA and will always be part of their ongoing legacy. Despite this groundbreaking research, heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 killers in the nation. In the time it takes to read this brief document, at least one American has died of cardiovascular disease. The new knowledge and advances that result from American Heart Association research benefits millions of lives in every corner of the U.S. and around the world – their research has led to gold standard treatments and guidelines used by healthcare providers globally. Association-funded research has touched the lives of every heart and stroke patient treated in the United States, and not only does every heart and stroke patient benefit from it, but so do the millions of people who want to live healthier lives and prevent the disease from ever happening.

Currently, the American Heart Association is funding nearly funding nearly $600 million nationwide in active research and is the largest funder of cardiovascular research second to the government with nearly $19 million invested in active research happening right now in Central Ohio. Since funding began in 1951, more than $76 million has been invested in 769 projects.

All funds raised through the Heart of Columbus campaign and its Research Reception support groundbreaking research, health equity, local, state and federal advocacy efforts and equipping the Central Ohio community with lifesaving knowledge.

The 2024 Research Reception will be held Tuesday, December 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Grand Event Center at the Grandview Yard located at 820 Goodale Blvd., Grandview Heights, OH 43212.
